About Corneal Diseases

The cornea is the clear window on the front of the eye that is responsible for focusing light. This structure is the most highly innervated tissue of the body causing us severe pain when injured. Most diseases of the eye are treated with a combination of medical or surgical therapy and include corneal abrasions, corneal clouding, and corneal infections. Most problems with the cornea can be prevented by using safety glasses while working outdoors, proper care of contact lenses, and the aggressive treatment of dry eyes.
